So, you’re ready to get started with Marketing Automation! Woohoo!!!
First things first, let’s take a look at how to select the best Marketing Automation platform to support your business.
It may feel a bit like choosing between an apple and an orange but it’s not that easy. There are many factors to consider and you don’t want to be rushing in blind and making the wrong decision which could potentially cause more headaches than you already had.
Your choice of platform is only one component of your Marketing Automation but it’s a biggie.
1. Your Budget
If you’ve already worked out which platform ticks your boxes, be sure to check your upfront costs and ongoing monthly commitment. This can vary as some providers charge a set-up fee to get you started. You’ll want to ensure that everything you need is covered and there are no nasty surprises down the track with fees for extra emails etc. For us Aussies, if there’s an option to subscribe in AUD dollars take it as the US exchange rate is not in our favour right now (Feb 2019).
2. Your Contact List
Have you already started building a list of prospects and customers? Most platforms start at 500 contacts and the monthly subscription is based on your contact numbers. For example, if you have 450 contacts, I’d recommend the next level up which may be 1500 contacts. That gives you some growing room to continue building your list.
It’s always important to evaluate if you need any other marketing tools to work with your MA platform. Quite a few platforms natively integrate with other tools and but some don’t and you may need Zapier to connect them up. This could be an additional cost.
Most providers offer some kind of help desk, chat and potentially some kind of resource library with videos and how-to guides. Consider whether you are going to be taking the learning curve or someone else in your team. You may be able to take up an option for one-off coaching to help you make the best start. Some platforms may appear confusing at first. I recommend you invest the time to stick with it and give it a red hot go because it will reap you rewards.
5. Try before you buy
If there’s a particular platform that you’re keen on or you’re trying to decide between two, you should give them a test run. I recommend signing up for a free trial if it’s offered so you can take a peek under the hood and see if it’s the right fit for you.
6. Speak with an expert
It’s worth taking the time to jump on a call with someone who knows the ropes and can help you make the best decision for your business for the long term.
